A few years back, I was introduced to a book that’s become (for me at least) a Christmas classic right up there with Scrooge and his ‘Christmas Carol.’ Called ‘Unplug the Christmas Machine,’ its a great how-to guide to helping jog our memories in making us mindful of what kind of holiday we really want to have.
The year I first read it was a particularly crazy one, and it seemed that every time I looked up, the sand was flowing way too fast to the bottom of the hourglass (know what I mean?) But this book reminding of the power our own words can have. Every time I was spinning like a top trying to beat the clock, I taught myself to stop – just for a second or two – and repeat (silently or aloud) – this simple mantra: ‘I have plenty of time. I have plenty of time. I have plenty of time.’ With a second alternate: ‘I have all the time I need.’
Sounds way too easy, doesn’t it? Well, in case you need a second opinion, my friend Annette told me after that Christmas: ‘I did it! And it was amazing how un-stressed out I was. Who knew such a simple reminder to myself could actually give me more time AND keep me from going nuts!’
Simple? Yes, but sometimes the best things in life aren’t just free… they’re easy!
PS Now you can even download it to your Kindle and take it with you on the go…
